The short answer

A teleprompter is a rehearsal tool, not a delivery tool. Use it to learn the shape and pacing of your speech in three or four run-throughs, then deliver from a printed card on the day. Reading from a phone at the microphone looks visibly different from reading from paper.

How to rehearse with a teleprompter

The purpose is not to memorise the speech word for word. It is to learn where the beats fall so that the printed card you hold on the day only needs to prompt you, not carry you.

  1. First run: set the speed slow and simply read it aloud once to hear the sentences.
  2. Second run: set the speed to your intended pace and try to stay with it. Mark anywhere you fall behind — those sentences are too long.
  3. Third run: increase the speed by about ten percent to simulate the adrenaline of the day.
  4. Fourth run: turn the teleprompter off and deliver it from your printed card. This is the run that tells you whether it is ready.

Accessibility and reduced motion

Scrolling text can be uncomfortable or unusable for some readers. This tool respects your operating system's reduced-motion setting: with it enabled, the prompter advances in discrete steps rather than scrolling continuously. You can also pause, step and scrub with the keyboard alone.

  • Space — play and pause
  • Up and down arrows — adjust speed
  • Left and right arrows — step backward and forward
  • F — toggle fullscreen
  • Escape — exit fullscreen

Frequently asked questions

Is this wedding speech teleprompter free?

Yes, completely free with no account required. Your speech text is never sent to our servers — it stays in your browser.

Should I use a teleprompter during the actual wedding speech?

No. Use it to rehearse, then deliver from a printed card. Phones and tablets lock, glare and shake in ways paper does not, and reading from a screen reads as less personal to the room.

What scroll speed should I use?

Start at 130 words per minute and increase to 150 for your final rehearsals. Most people speak faster on the day than they do at home.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Tap to pause and resume, swipe up or down to adjust position, and use the fullscreen button for the largest text. It is designed mobile-first.

Will my speech be saved?

It is kept in your browser only, so it survives a page refresh on the same device but is never transmitted or stored by us. Clearing your browser data removes it.
